Jasper was born with a cleft lip and palate, and from the very beginning, his parents faced an uphill battle.
Rhea spent countless nights awake, wondering what kind of future awaited her son. Her husband worked as a construction worker earning minimum wage, they knew they could never afford the surgeries Jasper needed. In those early days, they questioned God—and themselves—trying to understand why this hardship had fallen on their little boy.
“I already knew my baby had a cleft lip. But when I finally gave birth, a part of me hoped it wasn’t true—and then it was. I couldn’t sleep for weeks. I kept thinking, why did this happen to me, what did I do wrong in God’s eyes?” Rhea recalls.
But they refused to give up. They searched tirelessly for free medical programs, clinging to the hope that someone, somewhere, could help their son.
Eventually, through ICM’s Medical Mercy Fund, a partner organization offered to perform the surgeries at no cost. Jasper first received an operation to repair his cleft lip, followed by another procedure to close his palate. And through every step of the process, ICM stood with the family—encouraging them, praying with them, and offering emotional and spiritual support when fear and doubt felt overwhelming. ICM also provided financial assistance, covering transportation for check-ups and surgery days, along with medicine and food during Jasper’s recovery.
When the second surgery was finally completed, Jasper’s parents wept with joy. It felt as if the weight they had carried since the day he was born had finally been lifted.
As Jasper healed, his mother patiently taught him how to speak—guiding him through sounds, helping him practice words, and naming parts of his body. These small moments, once clouded with fear, now filled their home with gratitude and hope.
Today, Rhea no longer asks what she did wrong or why this happened. Through Jasper’s healing, she has come to understand that his condition was never a punishment. She knows her son is God’s gift, and his journey a story of grace, love, and hope.
What once filled her with fear has deepened her faith. And as Jasper grows, his smile now reflects a future no longer defined by doubt, but by possibility.
“Thank you, Lord! And thank you to everyone who helped us! Jasper dreams of becoming a doctor, and I’m going to support him all the way!” Rhea shares.
