From Conchita’s Hands and Heart

For over 20 years, Conchita lived with a cyst on her neck that distrupted her sleep and caused discomfort. The local midwife in Conchita’s village warned her against overworking, which meant Conchita needed to pare back the hours she spent washing clothes to earn money. Forced to rely on her husband’s unstable fishing income to provide for their family and grandchildren, ridiculed by the neighbors for her appearance, with no close friends, and not enough money for the family, Conchita had no hope that the future might ever improve.

Conchita was invited to attend ICM’s Transform program, where an ICM staff member noted her cyst and helped organise funds from ICM’s Medical Mercy Fund to cover the cost of the sac’s removal.

Without your support, ICM would be unable to help those in need; to give women like Conchita the opportunity to contribute to the family income after healing.

It is to you that Conchita wrote this thank you letter.

TRANSLATION:

Greetings to all,

My family and I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of International Care Ministries (ICM) for helping the poorest people like us. Thank you so much to those who supported us financially in our operation. We know that in our own capacity and income we cannot afford to undergo operation, but by the help of ICM our burden was lifted.

Most of all, I thank God for choosing people to be used to help poorest of the poor like us, especially me. Thank you so much for extending my life, for giving me a chance to live longer to be with my family and to see my grandchildren grow. Without your help I don’t know what will happen to me.

Thank you so much ICM for the privilege that you give me. Now I feel relieved and at ease because of your help, and my cyst is gone even though it leaves a mark on my face. But this scar will always remind me of your kindness to me.

I know I cannot repay your goodness and kindness to us, especially me but I know for sure that God will bless you and will reward for your kindness to me. Thank you so much for all the staff of ICM and for the supporters. It is my hope and prayer that you will never ever change and get tired of helping poor people like me. Thank you so much ICM for giving hope to the hopeless.

I will end my letter now, but I will not stop thanking and praising God for using you to help the needy people like me. Thank you so much and God bless you both to all the staff of ICM and to those you suppoerted us financially.

Sincerely yours,
Conchita

Conchita after ICM Medical

In the lives of many that live on subsistent level, one medical crisis can wipe out any progress made in the fight out of poverty. ICM works with families to help them remove as many barriers to quality health care as possible. In 2014-15, ICM assisted 61 patients with surgical needs and 1,892 patients with non-surgical needs.
